What is Kid Bytes?
Kid Bytes is an educational television program that entertains, inspires and pro-actively promotes learning through the performing arts. A community of young actors come together to engage their skills of quick thinking, character impersonation and physical comedy in this live experience that is IMPROV!
What is improv?
'Improv' is an abbreviated term from the word improvisation. It is the creation of thought, action or feeling without pre-planning. Often referred to as 'spontaneous' or 'going with the flow', Kid Bytes is improv from an actor's perspective.
Who/What is involved?
A team of actors and dancers, the byte panel and a byte vault. Dancers open the show, then the actors take their improv to the stage. With help from the byte panel (improv educators), these actors develop quickly to avoid a byte vault penalty.
History of Kid Bytes
Our Host, Eron Block, developed his appetite for story telling and imaginative play as a child. Much of his teenage and young adult life had him explore, and what now others know to be, his love for improvisation. Eron was blessed with 'the gift of the gab' and, along with his innate ability to rally the kids in the sand box, showed at a young age that his interest was in how people could work together, solve problems and have fun. From the sand box to the stage, Eron’s improv classes explore both the fun and analysis of it. His students enjoy learning in a proactive environment, and, coupled with scene, story and action, the idea of Kid Bytes has always been to show and to develop the creative intelligence of our youth.
Mission of Kid Bytes
To our audiences we aim to inform and demonstrate how the important life skills of critical thinking, communication, listening and problem solving, can be developed through the lens of the performing arts. Secondly is to our performers, in offering this platform we aim to empower our youth to believe in their artistic abilities.
